Robert E. Burke is a 1975 graduate of the De Paul University College of Commerce.  He was captain and most valuable player on the school's golf team that year and played for the team from 1971-75.

He is a 1978 graduate of the De Paul University College of Law.  He acted as Research & Development Editor for the DePaul Law Review from 1977-78.  He served as an assistant to the dean and faculty in the preparation of course curriculum  and as a law clerk for Coffield, Ungaretti, Harris & Slavin, a private law firm, during that time.

Upon his graduation in 1978 and continuing to December 1, 1980, he served as a law clerk for Illinois Supreme Court Justice Thomas E. Kluczynski, working in the Chicago and Springfield offices of the court and assisting in the drafting of fifty opinions during the two and one-half years he worked for the court.

Because the Illinois Marriage and Dissolution of Marriage Act had recently been passed in 1977, a large percentage of cases before the court were in that area, but he worked on a wide variety of other cases, including criminal law (including death penalty cases), juvenile law, personal injury law and worker's compensation law.  Although he was offered what would have been a newly created oversight position or a judgeship by the court, he established a practice in McHenry. Illinois, where he has since continued to practice.

He has tried or participated in State court cases in McHenry, Lake, Cook, Du Page, Will, Kane, Winnebago and Boone Counties in Illinois, Wisconsin, Florida, California and Colorado and federal courts in Chicago, Rockford, Milwaukee and New York, including appellate work arising out of those cases.

He is licensed to practice in State trial and appeals courts in Illinois and Wisconsin and federal trial courts and appeals courts in Chicago and Milwaukee.

Written retainer agreements are used in most cases.  He is available for work in most areas of civil and criminal law, including trial and appeals; real estate; wills and trusts; corporations; and probate.
